LAHORE โ The Punjab government has released a set of emergency Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guide citizens in the event of a potential armed conflict or aerial attack involving India, urging the public to remain calm and follow safety protocols.
Issued by the Welfare Wing of the Services and General Administration Department, the advisory aims to ensure that households across the province are prepared for any emergency, focusing on secure sheltering, essential supplies, and safe evacuation procedures.
Residents are advised to identify a secure, windowless area in their homesโsuch as a basement or an interior roomโto be used as a shelter during any attack.
The guidelines recommend keeping a basic emergency kit that includes first-aid supplies, bottled water, non-perishable food, flashlights, and portable phone chargers.
In case of a siren or official warning, citizens are instructed to:
- Turn off all lights to minimize visibility.
- Move immediately to the designated safe zone.
- Secure all doors and windows, and shut off gas connections.
- Avoid elevators and use stairwells when moving to lower floors.
If evacuation becomes necessary, residents must:
- Follow official orders without delay.
- Take essential documents and emergency supplies.
- Ensure all gas, water, and electricity connections are turned off before leaving.
The government also urged people to stay alert, monitor official news channels for updates, and support vulnerable community membersโespecially the elderly or those with disabilities.
