Pakistan has successfully countered India’s allegations over the recent Pahalgam attack during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting, garnering support from all five permanent members of the council.
The development marks a diplomatic setback for the Modi government, as global powers—including long-standing Indian defense partners—sided with Pakistan. This unanimous backing has intensified domestic criticism in India, with analysts calling out the Modi administration’s foreign policy for isolating the country on the world stage.
France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, and China all supported Pakistan’s stance and dismissed India’s claims. Notably, both France and the U.S.—major arms suppliers to India—chose not to back New Delhi’s position during the meeting. When Pakistan requested that its name not be included in the discussion, none of the P5 countries objected.
Pakistan has described the Pahalgam incident as a false flag operation, accusing India of fabricating the narrative to tarnish its image. Pakistani officials argued that India had failed to present any credible evidence to support its accusations.
Observers in India are increasingly voicing concern over the government’s inconsistent approach to international diplomacy and regional security, warning that any potential escalation could have dire consequences for Indian civilians.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s proactive and unified approach at the UN is being hailed as a diplomatic win, strengthening its position on the global stage.
