In a major step toward modernizing airport operations, Pakistan has finalized a project to install electronic gates (E-Gates) at Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi airports. The initiative aims to enhance passenger processing and security through automation.
A delegation from the German technology firm M2P visited the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) headquarters in Karachi to formalize the agreement. During the visit, M2P’s Managing Partner Christopher Mostert and Director of Engineering Services Kashif Shah Jelani held high-level discussions with senior PAA officials. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Director General (Airports) Sadiq-ur-Rehman and attended by Deputy Director General (Works & Development) Samair Saeed, along with directors from various departments.
Under the agreement, M2P will provide comprehensive technical support, including a feasibility study, detailed planning, system design, and installation of the E-Gates across the three international airports.
Surveys for the E-Gate installation at Islamabad and Lahore airports have already been completed, while the survey at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport is scheduled to begin today.
Officials said the E-Gates will significantly enhance airport efficiency by automating immigration checks, improving security, and reducing reliance on manual processing. The new system is expected to provide international travelers with a faster, smoother, and more secure experience.
The move is part of broader efforts to modernize Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure and bring it in line with international standards, as passenger traffic continues to grow.
