ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced a substantial increase in Balochistanโs share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) award, reaffirming his governmentโs commitment to the provinceโs socio-economic uplift through people-centric development initiatives.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Jinnah Square Murree Road Underpass in Islamabad, the premier underscored the need for balanced progress across all provinces.
โBalochistan is the heart of Pakistan. Its development projects are a reflection of the peopleโs hopes,โ he said, noting that a once-violent route in the province is now being transformed into a modern highway. While exact figures were not revealed, he described the NFC enhancement as a โdoublingโ of the previous allocation.
Accelerated Progress in Islamabad
Highlighting rapid infrastructure development in the capital, PM Shehbaz praised ongoing beautification and road expansion works, declaring that Islamabad was evolving into โa cradle of progress, beauty, and modern amenities.โ He commended Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for fast-tracking urban projects, coining the term โPakistan speedโ to describe the efficiency.
He also pointed to the flourishing seasonal blooms as a symbol of the cityโs renewed vibrancy.
Economic Outlook Upgraded
Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Fitch Ratingsโ upgrade of Pakistanโs credit outlook from โCCCโ to โBโโ with a stable forecast, attributing it to the teamwork and resilience of his government. โThis improvement reflects the hard work of Team Pakistan. We are committed to continuing on this path of economic recovery and national development,โ he said.
Minister Naqvi Outlines Timelines
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, speaking at the event, announced that the Jinnah Square underpass would be completed in just 35 daysโwell ahead of the original 60-day schedule. He also shared updates on traffic relief measures at Faisal Masjid Chowk and the long-awaited activation of the Blue Area parking plaza.
