The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) announced on Sunday that it had seized 420 kilograms of meat from dead animals near Darya Khan and safely destroyed it at a designated dumping site. This action follows ongoing efforts to tackle the illegal sale of meat from animals that have died outside proper slaughter or hunting methods, which is prohibited under Islamic law.
According to PFA sources, a raid was conducted on a tip-off, with police assistance, near Darya Khan, where they discovered the 420kg of dead animal meat. A veterinary doctor confirmed on-site that the animals had died prior to slaughter.
A case has been filed against the accused involved in this illegal activity.
This is not the first such incident. Last month, Chowk Sarwar Shaheed Patrolling Police seized 20 maunds of dead animal meat from a van at Riazabad Chowk. The meat, intended for supply to a local hotel in Multan, was being transported from Chowk Azam. The van driver was arrested, and the PFA was informed to take legal action. The dead meat was disposed of by the authorities.
In a similar operation in November 2022, the city administration seized two tonnes of dead animal meat from a cold storage, which was intended for distribution to local hotels, restaurants, and markets. Eleven individuals were arrested during that operation.
The PFA continues its efforts to combat the illegal trade in dead animal meat and ensure public safety.
