Alishba Khan Barech
Pakistani youth continues to shine globally, with novelist Alishba Khan Barech becoming the latest to bring fame and honor to her homeland.
She was awarded the prestigious โYoung Woman of the Yearโ accolade at the Women Changing the World Awards 2025, held in London on Thursday. This recognition further solidifies her place as a rising star in the literary and activism sectors.
Hailing from Nushki, Balochistan, Barech is the youngest self-published author from Pakistan. Her journey toward this significant achievement began when she was selected as one of the 12 finalists for the award back in February.
Out of 751 nominations from over 50 countries, Barechโs impressive accomplishments in literature and advocacy set her apart. The award celebrates exceptional women who have made a meaningful impact in various fields, including literature, education, leadership, sustainability, advocacy, and innovation.
It also aims to amplify women’s voices globally, inspiring collective empowerment and awakening hearts through shared dreams.
Barechโs recognition on such a prominent platform is a testament to her work that challenges dominant narratives, particularly those surrounding her home province of Balochistan.
Not only is she Pakistanโs youngest novelist and memoirist, having published her debut novel at the age of 11, and her memoir at 14, but she is also a passionate activist. She has served as an ambassador for UNICEF Pakistan, advocating for mental health awareness and polio eradication.
Furthermore, she is an advisor to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, a member of the National Youth Council, and a youth ambassador for the Pakistan Super Leagueโs Quetta Gladiators franchise.
Barechโs journey is remarkable not just for her literary success, but also for her academic and extracurricular achievements. She made history as the first female Pashtun from Balochistan, South Asia, to earn a merit scholarship to the John Locke Summer University.
A self-taught writer, Barechโs passion for storytelling began at an early age, driven by an interest in global affairs and a desire to shed light on the struggles of her homeland, Balochistan, a region historically plagued by conflict and instability.
After receiving the award, Barech expressed her deep gratitude, dedicating the honor to her parents, teachers, and her beloved province of Balochistan.
She reflected, โWhen my countryโs name was called among global achievers, it was more than a personal milestoneโit was proof that stories of resilience and brilliance can rise from Nushki and Quetta.
There is nothing more special than to bring a global award for your people.โ Through her words, she highlights the significance of her victory not only for herself but for her entire community and nation, proving that perseverance and talent can shine through even in the most challenging circumstances.
