The large-scale distribution of Iftar meals across Dubai, transcending race, religion, and nationality, has led to a remarkable phenomenon—each year, several non-Muslims embrace Islam.
Sheikh Muhammad Aziz, an African expatriate from Malawi, shared this insight in an interview with Geo News. Alongside his team, he distributes 33,000 Iftar packets daily across 13 locations in Dubai.
“During Iftar distribution, no one is asked about their religion or nationality. Everyone is treated as a ‘guest of Allah,’ and meals are given without discrimination,” Sheikh Aziz stated.
Pakistani women volunteers also play a crucial role in spreading the spirit of Ramadan by distributing Iftar meals to underprivileged communities across the city.
Sheikh Aziz highlighted Islam’s core values of generosity and selflessness, which he believes inspire over 10 non-Muslims to convert to Islam every Ramadan.
Sheikh Aziz and his brother, Imran Aziz, began their mission of serving underprivileged individuals and laborers in 2015. Over time, their efforts have expanded into a large-scale Ramadan initiative known as Happy Happy Ramadan.
This campaign operates in multiple areas, including Barsha, Dubai Industrial Area, and Sonapur, with hundreds of volunteers participating—many of whom are non-Muslims from Europe and the UK.
Jemma, a UK-based volunteer, expressed her enthusiasm: “Distributing Iftar meals is a deeply fulfilling experience. My children also take part, helping to instill a sense of empathy and kindness in them.”
Pakistani volunteers also contribute significantly. Rizwan Fancy, a Pakistani volunteer, shared, “Hundreds of Pakistanis donate and distribute Iftar meals daily, ensuring they reach laborers and fasting individuals in need.”
One unique aspect of the distribution in Barsha is the inclusion of women in receiving Iftar. French volunteer Hafidha emphasized, “Barsha is the only location where women are also served Iftar, regardless of their faith or background.”
The Happy Happy Ramadan campaign operates with special permission from the Dubai government, allowing it to serve thousands daily throughout the holy month, ensuring that no one goes hungry.
