The Punjab Home Department has introduced new measures to enhance the verification process for weapon licences.
QR Code Integration for Verification
Home Department Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal has instructed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to generate QR codes for online verification of all weapon licences. This initiative aims to help law enforcement agencies quickly verify the validity of licences.
In a recent meeting chaired by Mengal, it was decided that QR codes will be attached to all weapon licences within a week. Additionally, each licence will be linked to the holder’s national identification card for better tracking and monitoring.
Stricter Regulations and Improved Licensing Process
Punjab’s commissioners and deputy commissioners have been directed to ensure QR code implementation for all weapon licence-related orders.
Mengal emphasized that individuals with serious criminal backgrounds will be prohibited from obtaining weapon licences.
To simplify the licensing process for both individuals and businesses, amendments are being made to the existing regulations.
Enhanced Monitoring and Fee Adjustments
The Directorate of Monitoring will play a greater role in verifying weapon licences to prevent misuse.
Additionally, there are proposals to revise the fees for issuing and renewing weapon licences.
The transition from manual to digital licensing systems is being closely monitored to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
