Aurat March 2025 rescheduled to May 11 Instead of Women’s Day because of Ramadan

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The Aurat March in Karachi will take place on May 11, 2025, rather than its usual date on International Women’s Day (March 8), out of respect for the holy month of Ramazan.

Organizers announced the decision during a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Women’s Day. They also emphasized that this year’s march will highlight the plight of missing persons in Balochistan and stand in solidarity with the struggles of people in Palestine and Ukraine.

Speaking at the event, Sheema Kermani—a social activist, classical dancer, and founder of Tehreek-e-Niswan—explained the rationale behind postponing the march. She shared that many domestic workers expressed difficulty in participating during Ramazan, prompting organizers to reschedule the event.

She further noted that May holds significance as it includes Labor Day and International Mother’s Day, making it a fitting time to recognize women as the backbone of the workforce.

The 2025 Aurat March in Karachi will be dedicated to honoring domestic workers and their struggles.
