Punjab Police successfully prevented a large-scale terrorist attack in Dera Ghazi Khan early this morning, repelling an assault by foreign militants.
According to a police spokesperson, a group of 15 to 20 heavily armed terrorists targeted a security checkpoint in the pre-dawn hours. The assailants used rocket launchers and other heavy weaponry in their attempt to breach the outpost.
Law enforcement personnel responded swiftly, utilizing advanced thermal imaging technology to detect the attackers. Armed with machine guns and mortars, the police engaged the militants, preventing them from advancing toward the checkpoint. Initial assessments suggest significant casualties among the attackers.
Inspector General of Punjab Police Usman Anwar praised the officers for their swift and decisive action, emphasizing that this latest operation marks the 19th terrorist attack successfully countered by the Punjab Police. He reiterated the department’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring public safety.
This marks the second major terrorist incident in the district within six days. A similar attack had previously occurred at the Lakhani checkpoint, located on the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border, but was also successfully repelled by security forces.
Authorities remain on high alert, with security measures being further reinforced in Dera Ghazi Khan and surrounding areas to prevent future threats. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in counterterrorism efforts.
