ISLAMABAD: A motorcycle rigged with explosives exploded near Jan Muhammad Road in Quetta, Balochistan, on Friday, injuring 11 people, including a security personnel, police reported.
Following the blast, police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured, transporting them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have cordoned off the area and are working to determine the cause and nature of the explosion.
The police confirmed that the explosives were attached to a motorcycle, but the investigation is still ongoing.
Earlier in the day, a suicide bombing targeted a mosque at the Darul Uloom Haqqania seminary in Nowshera, killing six people, including a prominent religious figure, Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani, son of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq. The blast occurred shortly after the Friday prayers as worshippers were exiting the mosque.
In a separate report, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed a sharp 42% rise in terrorist attacks nationwide in January 2025 compared to the previous month. At least 74 militant attacks resulted in 91 fatalities, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan were among the hardest-hit provinces.
