The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior has taken notice of the murder of Mustafa Amir, who was killed last month in Karachi, and has summoned the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh to appear before the committee on Friday, February 28, 2025.
In its notice, the committee directed the IG Sindh and other relevant police officials to provide details regarding the case, including information about Armaghan and the alleged drug trade linked to the incident.
Previously, the Sindh Home Department, following the Sindh High Court’s directives, issued a notification revoking the administrative powers of the judge at Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) 1 in the Mustafa Amir murder case. This decision was made after controversy arose over ATC 1’s refusal to grant remand for Armaghan, the primary suspect in the case.
The Sindh Interior Minister formally addressed the matter with the high court, leading to the transfer of ATC 1’s administrative authority to the judge at ATC 3, as per the court’s orders.
Separately, two accused in the case, Armaghan and Sheeraz, were produced before a magisterial court in Karachi. During the hearing, the judicial magistrate questioned the investigation officer about whether notices had been issued to the defense lawyers. The magistrate expressed dissatisfaction with the officer’s performance, citing delays in the identification parade of the accused and the failure to record witness statements under Section 164.
The court issued notices to the defense lawyers and ordered the suspects to be presented again on Thursday. The investigation officer informed the court that statements of two servants of the prime suspect, Armaghan, had been recorded under Section 164.
Mustafa Amir was reportedly kidnapped and murdered by his friends in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on January 6. According to police, the suspects placed his body in the trunk of his car and set it on fire in the Hub area of Balochistan.
