ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday extended the physical remand of Armaghan Qureshi and Shiraz, the accused in the Mustafa Amir murder case, for another five days and ordered their medical examination.
The court dismissed Armaghan’s claim that police had denied him access to a washroom for ten days, stating, “If that were true, you wouldn’t be standing here.”
During the proceedings, the court allowed the accused to meet with their families and lawyers under police supervision. Legal representatives for the accused, including Abid Zaman, Tahir-ul-Rehman, and Barrister Sara Asim, presented their power of attorney.
Armaghan pleaded with the court, alleging torture during police custody and requested not to be transferred for further interrogation.
The prosecution, however, argued that additional remand was essential to finalize the statements and DNA analysis of a girl named Zuma, who had been traced by the police.
The defence lawyer, on the other hand, raised concerns about the denial of access to Shiraz’s legal counsel while YouTubers were reportedly allowed to interview him. The lawyer also urged the court to review the record of a 15-minute police encounter, during which, he claimed, the accused contacted the police emergency helpline.
