ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Azerbaijan from February 24-25 at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev, the Foreign Office announced on Saturday.
This marks PM Shehbazโs second visit to Azerbaijan since assuming office in March 2024. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other key cabinet members, underscoring Pakistanโs commitment to strengthening ties with Azerbaijan.
Key Agenda & Cooperation
The visit will focus on bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, defence, education, and climate sectors. Several MoUs and agreements are expected to be signed to deepen collaboration between the two nations.
PM Shehbaz is also set to deliver a keynote speech at a Business Forum organized in collaboration with AZPROMO (Azerbaijan’s Export and Investment Promotion Agency).
Additionally, he and President Aliyev will visit Fuzuli (Karabakh) as part of a special tour to the liberated territories of Karabakh.
Strategic Agreements & Investments
Reports indicate that both countries may sign an agreement to establish an international trading company in Singapore as a joint venture between Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Azerbaijanโs State Oil Company (SOCAR). The federal cabinet has already approved the decision, and PSO will soon deposit $0.5 million for the company’s registration in Singapore.
In February 2024, Pakistan signed a $1.6 billion agreement with Azerbaijan for the sale of JF-17C Block-III fighter jets. During President Aliyevโs visit to Pakistan in July 2024, both nations agreed to enhance bilateral investments up to $2 billion in key sectors.
