DERA GHAZI KHAN: A police checkpost in Dera Ghazi Khan was targeted in a coordinated attack by terrorists, but the assault was successfully repelled by security forces, according to Punjab Police.
The attack took place at the Jhangi checkpost, which falls under the jurisdiction of Vahowa police station. Around 15 to 20 militants launched the assault under the cover of darkness, using rocket launchers, hand grenades, and advanced firearms.
Despite the heavy firepower, the police forces responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to retreat.
Following the attack, a search operation has been initiated in the area to apprehend the fleeing militants. The operation is being led by RPO Dera Ghazi Khan, Captain (retd) Sajjad Hassan Khan Manj, and DPO Dera Ghazi Khan Syed Ali.
This incident adds to the ongoing concerns over a rise in terrorist activity, with 2024 already proving to be one of the deadliest years for both civilian and military security forces, marked by numerous fatalities and attacks.
