Saif Ali Khan
The arrest of the man responsible for attacking Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan has been clouded by contradictory reports, leading to confusion about his identity.
Initially, the suspect was identified as 31-year-old Akash Kanojia, who was apprehended aboard a train coming from Chhattisgarh.
However, new revelations suggest that the attacker is actually Mohammed Shariful Islam Shahzad, a Bangladeshi national working for a housekeeping agency in Thane.
According to Indian media reports, Shahzad was arrested near a metro construction site in the Hiranandani Estate area. Police have since clarified that the attacker was using multiple aliases, including Bijoy Das, Vijay Das, Mohammed Elias, and BJ. A Mumbai police official disclosed that documents found on Shahzad revealed he had entered India illegally from Bangladesh.
The suspect had been residing and working in Mumbai and Thane for the past seven to eight months, most recently employed at a construction site as part of a contractor’s team.
After attacking Saif Ali Khan, Shahzad reportedly monitored news coverage of the incident, likely to track the police response. Fearing his imminent capture, he turned off his phone to avoid detection.
The attack took place in the early hours of Thursday morning at Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Bandra West. The actor, aged 54, was stabbed multiple times near his neck and spine.
In critical condition, he was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in an auto-rickshaw, where he underwent emergency surgery. Medical professionals later confirmed that he was no longer in danger.
The conflicting reports surrounding the attacker’s identity have raised questions, and the case is under further investigation. The police continue to piece together the details of Shahzad’s background and his motives for targeting the actor.
The incident has left both fans and the public shocked, further highlighting the growing concern over security issues involving high-profile individuals in India.
