DG ISPR Asserts No Change in Military’s Stance on May 9 Violence

DG ISPR

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, addressed a press conference in Rawalpindi on Friday, reiterating the Pakistan Armed Forces’ stance on the May 9 violence.

He emphasized that the events of May 9 were not just a military concern but were reflective of the sentiments shared by the entire nation. He warned that when armed groups impose their will unlawfully, it threatens the very fabric of society.

The military spokesman reminded the public that, following directives from the judiciary, specific cases related to the May 9 attacks were transferred to military courts, where the individuals involved were sentenced according to the law.

During the press briefing, Lieutenant General Chaudhry also outlined the remarkable successes of the Pakistan Armed Forces in their fight against terrorism.

In 2024, the military carried out 59,775 operations across the country, which led to the elimination of 925 terrorists, including 73 high-profile targets.

Additionally, hundreds of terrorists were apprehended, and significant caches of weapons and ammunition were seized. He assured the nation of the armed forces’ unwavering commitment to uprooting terrorism and ensuring national security.

On the issue of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil, the DG ISPR pointed out that groups like ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ were actively involved in anti-Pakistan activities.

He stressed that despite the challenges posed by these terrorist networks operating from Afghanistan, Pakistan’s armed forces were dedicated to defending the country and its borders.

He also reflected on the government’s efforts to combat smuggling and electricity theft, highlighting Pakistan’s genuine attempts at fostering peace in Afghanistan, despite the lack of progress.

The DG ISPR further criticized past decisions that allowed extremist groups to regroup, particularly in 2021, and expressed concerns over the consequences these policies have had, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He also mentioned that Pakistan remains fully aware of the threat posed by India on the eastern front.

In 2024 alone, India had committed 25 ceasefire violations and 525 incidents of firing along the Line of Control (LoC). The DG ISPR condemned India’s false flag operations and its involvement in spreading anti-Pakistan propaganda through its intelligence agency, RAW.

He also highlighted the ongoing human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and condemned the martyrdom of innocent Kashmiris.

Lastly, Lieutenant General Chaudhry emphasized Pakistan’s military readiness to defend the nation at all costs, ensuring that the armed forces remain a crucial component of disaster management and relief efforts during natural calamities.
