Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has been hospitalized after developing a fever, his office confirmed on Monday. The 78-year-old was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., for medical testing and observation, according to a statement from his deputy chief of staff, Angel Urena.
Clinton remains in good spirits and is receiving excellent care, Urena shared on social media platform X, though no further details about his condition were provided. NBC News, citing a source close to Clinton, reported that the situation is “not urgent.”
Clinton, who served as the 42nd president of the United States from 1993 to 2001, has a history of health issues. In 2021, he was hospitalized for five days due to sepsis from a urological infection. He also underwent significant heart surgeries in 2004 and 2010.
The former president has frequently discussed the lifestyle changes he made to manage his health, including adopting a largely vegan diet.
Since leaving office, Clinton has remained an influential figure in the Democratic Party, continuing his work in diplomacy and humanitarian efforts. In August, he delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
