The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued 177 telecom licenses during the fiscal year 2023-24, with significant improvements in the licensing process.
Officials confirmed that the license issuance system has been fully digitized, allowing applicants from remote areas to access services more efficiently. The new system aims to enhance transparency and accessibility, making it easier for individuals and organizations to apply for and receive licenses.
According to PTA documents, the licenses issued in the past year include:
- 60 fixed local loop licenses
- 36 class value-added services licenses
- 31 wireless HF and VHF licenses
- 49 amateur licenses
- 3 long-distance and international licenses
- 6 aeronautical mobile station licenses
- 2 LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) licenses
This brings the total number of telecom licenses issued by PTA to 2,140.
In the area of submarine cables, PTA has granted seven licenses to date, with four more under review. The digitization of the licensing process is expected to benefit entrepreneurs and businesses in remote areas, promoting greater inclusivity in the telecom sector.
