Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has outlined its demands for negotiations with the government, following the formation of a governmental committee aimed at facilitating talks.
Sources within the party confirm that a list of approximately 5,000 political prisoners has been prepared, with PTI Chairman Imran Khan at the forefront.
Key demands include the release of all political prisoners, along with the establishment of judicial commissions to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26. PTI is advocating for these commissions to be led by three of the Supreme Court’s most senior judges.
Despite these demands, the government’s position remains unchanged. Barrister Aqeel, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Law and Justice, has made it clear that Imran Khan’s release will not be part of the negotiation process. Speaking to the media in Taxila, he emphasized that any hopes for leniency through talks are misguided, and that the cases related to May 9 will proceed according to the legal process, independent of any negotiations. He further stressed that negotiations do not guarantee a blanket amnesty.
