Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram has declared the initiation of a phased civil disobedience movement starting tomorrow. This announcement comes in response to what PTI perceives as the government’s lack of seriousness in ongoing negotiations.
Addressing the media, Akram acknowledged National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf’s efforts in facilitating talks but criticized the government for failing to demonstrate genuine commitment to resolving key issues. He stated that this inaction had compelled the party to launch its civil disobedience campaign.
The announcement preceded the Prime Minister’s decision to form a negotiation committee. Akram’s remarks followed a series of conflicting statements from PTI leaders about the deadline for the movement.
Latif Khosa previously stated that the deadline set by PTI Chairman Imran Khan had already passed, leading to the activation of the party’s overseas chapters regarding remittances.
In contrast, Salman Akram Raja contended that the deadline was still in place and would remain so until the end of the week. He indicated that the party’s next steps would be determined after the deadline expires.
The civil disobedience campaign marks a significant escalation in PTI’s approach, reflecting their dissatisfaction with the current state of negotiations and the government’s stance.
PTI leaders have emphasized their commitment to pressuring the government for meaningful engagement, signaling a critical juncture in the ongoing political stalemate. The phased movement is expected to unfold over the coming days, with further details anticipated from PTI leadership.
