A soldier was martyred during an exchange of fire with terrorists attempting to infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The incident, reported by the military’s media wing, highlighted the security forces’ success in thwarting the infiltration attempt.
According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the gun battle occurred in the general area of Rajgal during the night between December 19 and 20. Security forces successfully neutralized four terrorists during the confrontation, ensuring the safety of the region.
The martyred soldier, Sepoy Amir Sohail Afridi, 22, was a resident of Khyber. His sacrifice has been hailed as a testament to the dedication and bravery of Pakistan’s armed forces in their ongoing fight against terrorism.
The ISPR statement also reiterated Pakistan’s persistent calls for effective border management from the interim Afghan government.
It emphasized the need for Afghanistan to fulfill its responsibilities by preventing the use of its territory by terrorist groups, referred to as Khwarij, to orchestrate acts of terrorism against Pakistan.
“Pakistan has consistently been asking the Interim Afghan Government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border,” the statement said, urging Afghanistan to deny terrorists access to its soil for activities targeting Pakistan.
The military’s media wing reaffirmed the commitment of Pakistan’s security forces to safeguarding the nation’s borders and eliminating terrorism. “Security Forces of Pakistan remain committed to secure its borders & eliminate the menace of terrorism, and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR added.
This incident underscores the continued challenges Pakistan faces along its border regions and highlights the unwavering determination of its armed forces to protect the country’s sovereignty and security.
