terrorist attack on Chapri Police Station
MIANWALI: A terrorist attack on Chapri Police Station in Mianwali, Punjab, was successfully thwarted by the police on Saturday, resulting in the death of at least two terrorists.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, more than 20 heavily armed terrorists launched the attack on the police station, triggering a fierce gunfight. The police retaliated effectively, killing two of the attackers during the exchange of fire. The terrorists also deployed rocket launchers and hand grenades in their assault. Despite the intense attack, all police personnel remained unharmed, though two officers sustained minor injuries.
This incident comes amid a rising wave of militancy in Pakistan since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, with attacks increasingly targeting security forces.
Earlier on the same day, a Frontier Corps captain and an army soldier were martyred in separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu and Khyber districts. The military’s media wing confirmed that eight terrorists were killed in the two operations.
