The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in response to a contempt of court petition, following the party’s protests in Islamabad that allegedly violated a court order.
The court has directed PTI and relevant officials to submit their responses by next week.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq led the hearing of the petition filed by a traders’ association from Sector F-7. The petition accused PTI of organizing protests, with thousands of demonstrators, mainly from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, entering the capital despite a court ruling prohibiting such actions. The traders’ body further claimed that the protesters aimed to forcibly secure the release of PTI leader Imran Khan from jail.
The traders also criticized the government and local authorities for failing to maintain order during the protests. They called for contempt proceedings against PTI and for officials responsible for violating the court’s orders to be held accountable.
Along with PTI, the court has issued notices to the interior secretary, chief commissioner, deputy commissioner, and the inspector general of Islamabad police. These officials have been asked to provide their responses at the next hearing.
