Journalist Matiullah Jan Found at Margalla Police Station After Alleged Abduction

Senior journalist and anchor Hamid Mir has reported that fellow journalist Matiullah Jan was abducted from Islamabad, though later updates indicated he was found at the Margalla Police Station.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning, Mir revealed that Matiullah Jan and another journalist, Saqib Bashir, were taken by unidentified individuals on the night of November 26. While Bashir was eventually released, Jan’s whereabouts remained unclear until the morning update.

Mir added that Saqib Bashir intends to file a petition with the Islamabad High Court regarding the incident. Another journalist, Roohan Ahmad, stated that Matiullah Jan was reportedly taken outside the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital.

Matiullah Jan had recently shared a video on social media, alleging that a Rangers official in Islamabad was run over by his own vehicle. However, Rangers officials contradicted his claim, stating that a protester in a speeding vehicle was responsible for injuring their colleague.

Additionally, Jan had alleged that PIMS hospital staff were under pressure to refrain from reporting casualties linked to the operation against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters.

Later in the morning, journalist Arifa Noor shared an update at 9:12 AM, confirming Jan’s presence at Margalla Police Station. Noor mentioned that journalists were heading there to meet him.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of journalists and the rising number of abductions in the country. Matiullah Jan, known for his outspoken views and investigative reporting, has previously faced similar threats and intimidation.
