Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif, along with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has returned to Lahore after completing an extended overseas tour that included stops in the UAE, the UK, the US, and Europe.
Nawaz Sharif, who departed Lahore on October 25, concluded his multi-country trip, which involved key political and diplomatic engagements in Dubai, London, the United States, and various European nations. His return to Lahore marks the end of a tour focused on strengthening political ties and fulfilling diplomatic commitments.
Maryam Nawaz, who had left for Geneva on November 7 for a medical examination related to her parathyroid health issues, also completed her trip. After her brief stay in Switzerland, she extended her visit with a stop in London before returning to Lahore via a special aircraft.
While in London, Nawaz Sharif addressed the media, where he discussed the upcoming protest planned by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on November 24. He dismissed the protest as an attempt to destabilize the country, expressing confidence that it would not succeed in derailing Pakistan’s progress. “They will fail in their mission,” Nawaz asserted, referring to PTI’s planned demonstration.
The former Prime Minister also took aim at PTI and its leader, Imran Khan, who remains imprisoned after his conviction. Nawaz questioned what accomplishments Imran Khan could present to justify a nationwide protest. “What has Imran Khan done during his tenure that would make people take to the streets on his call?” Nawaz asked, emphasizing that there was no significant development project to show for his time in office.
On Pakistan’s economic recovery, Nawaz Sharif expressed optimism, stating that the country was emerging from economic difficulties and was now on a path to prosperity. However, he lamented that obstacles were still being created to hinder national progress, particularly criticizing PTI for its harmful actions against the country. He called for accountability for those responsible.
Nawaz’s comments followed earlier remarks in which he accused PTI of conspiring against his government during his tenure, citing the alleged involvement of Imran Khan, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and former ISI chief Faiz Hameed in the political manoeuvring against his administration.
