Apex Committee Meeting delayed for a day, till Tuesday

ISLAMABAD: The National Action Plan (NAP) Apex Committee meeting, originally scheduled for today, has been postponed till Tuesday (Nov 19).

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was set to chair the important session, rescheduled it due to other pressing commitments. The meeting will bring together top civil and military leadership, federal ministers, and the chief ministers and the chief secretaries of all four provinces.

The session’s primary objective is to review the progress of the National Action Plan on Anti-Terrorism, with a particular focus on the rising incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The meeting will assess the current security situation across the country and evaluate steps to enhance counter-terrorism measures.

In addition to reviewing NAP’s implementation, the committee will discuss improving coordination between provincial and federal authorities and strengthening intelligence-sharing mechanisms. It is also expected to focus on bolstering internal security and addressing the growing threats posed by terrorism.

The participants will receive a briefing on recent intelligence-based operations and review the effectiveness of current counter-terrorism strategies. Key decisions on enhancing the country’s security infrastructure are anticipated during the session.

The National Action Plan, established after the tragic 2014 Army Public School attack, remains the cornerstone of Pakistan’s counter-terrorism strategy and a critical framework for ensuring national security.
