Punjab University has postponed all scheduled exams due to severe smog conditions affecting Lahore and nearby areas. University officials confirmed that a revised exam schedule will be shared later. In the interim, faculty across affiliated colleges have been directed to transition to online teaching to ensure uninterrupted academic progress.
In response to the escalating smog crisis, the Punjab government has implemented several emergency measures, including declaring a health emergency in Lahore and Multan.
Key measures announced by provincial authorities include:
- Closure of all brick kilns and furnace-based plants in Lahore and Multan starting Friday to reduce emissions.
- A strict ban on heavy traffic entry in these cities to curb pollution levels.
- Potential enforcement of a complete lockdown on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if air quality does not improve by Wednesday.
- Dining in at restaurants will only be permitted until 4 PM, followed by takeaway services. All eateries must close entirely by 8 PM.
- Educational institutions across Punjab, excluding Murree, will remain closed until November 24, shifting to online learning during this period.
- Construction activities in Lahore and Multan are prohibited from Friday, with an exception for national-level projects.
- Medical staff holidays have been canceled, and hospital outpatient departments (OPDs) will operate until 8 PM daily.
The Punjab government is closely monitoring the situation and urges citizens to follow safety guidelines to mitigate health risks.
