NHMP Closes M-3 and M-4 Motorways Due to Severe Smog Conditions

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have announced the closure of two major motorways in Punjab on Sunday, citing hazardous conditions caused by thick fog and smog that severely limited visibility and posed a danger to motorists.

The M-4 motorway, stretching from Pindi Battian to Abdul Hakeem, and the M-3 motorway from Lahore to Durkhana, have been shut to traffic for safety reasons.

An NHMP spokesperson confirmed the closures and emphasized the decision was made in the interest of public safety. The spokesperson advised motorists to avoid travel during the foggy hours and suggested they limit their journeys to daylight hours, especially between 10 AM and 6 PM, when visibility is expected to improve.

Motorists were urged to use fog lights and exercise extra caution while driving. They were also advised to avoid speeding and tailgating to prevent accidents in these perilous conditions.

In case of any incidents or emergencies on the road, drivers were instructed to call the NHMP emergency helpline at 130 for immediate assistance.

With ongoing disruptions to traffic caused by poor visibility, the NHMP has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users and has urged drivers to stay informed and cautious while traveling in these adverse weather conditions.
