Passport Directorate denies fee hike; review Actual rates

The Directorate of Passport and Immigration in Pakistan has refuted recent media claims of increased passport fees, clarifying that the most recent adjustment occurred on March 7, 2024. A spokesperson emphasized that no new fee hike has been implemented, and the current rates, set in March, remain in effect.

For a standard 36-page passport valid for five years, the fees are Rs4,500 for normal processing, Rs7,500 for urgent service, and Rs12,500 for fast-track processing. For 72-page passports, the fees are Rs8,200 for normal processing, Rs13,500 for urgent service, and Rs18,500 for fast-track processing, all valid for five years. Replacement of lost passports also follows a set fee structure, with a reissue of a 36-page passport costing Rs9,000 for the first loss, with charges doubling or tripling for subsequent losses.

The spokesperson urged the public to disregard false claims of a fee increase, confirming that passport fees are based on the number of pages and the service category. Fees vary for 36-page, 72-page, and 100-page passports and apply to both standard and e-passports.

In response to misinformation, the Directorate confirmed there is no revised fee structure for machine-readable passports (MRPs) or e-passports. A 72-page e-passport currently costs Rs9,000 for normal processing and Rs15,000 for urgent service, with a five-year validity. Meanwhile, a 36-page MRP costs Rs4,500 for regular processing and Rs7,500 for urgent service, with an additional Rs1,000 service fee. A 72-page MRP with a 10-year validity is set at Rs8,200 for normal processing and Rs13,500 for urgent service.
