The Republican candidate Donald Trump won 101 Electoral Votes while Kamala Harris of the Democrats bagged 71, according to the initial results of the US elections available early Tuesday morning.
According to the Associated Press live Presidential results, Trump has bagged more than 20.27 million votes while Kamala Harris got 16.99 million votes. The winning candidate will have to capture at least 270 Electoral Votes in the United States.
Till 6:50 am PST, The Associated Press’s early projections show Republican nominee Donald J. Trump leading in nine states, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is ahead in five. Based on current polling and additional data, these projections were made before all ballots were counted.
Millions of Americans are heading to the polls as voting winds down across the U.S., with the presidential race between Trump and Harris being closely contested. In addition to the presidency, voters decide which party will control the House and Senate.
Trump urges supporters on social media to ‘stay in line’
Trump posted a video clip on his social networks encouraging Republican voters to “stay in line.”
“We’re doing well. If you’re in line, stay in line,” he says in the 13-second clip. “Don’t let them take you off that line.” The clip was widely shared across various social media platforms.
Silent pro-Palestine protests continue
Virginia, where pro-Palestine activists have held silent protests at multiple polling stations. Activists gathered at five locations in the DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia), urging voters to remember the Israeli conflict in Gaza before casting their ballots.
Palestinian American activist Hazami Barmada and others wore paper tapes labeled “democracy” over their mouths to symbolize their message.
