KARACHI: Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon chaired a key meeting where it was decided to procure fifty new buses for the Peoples Bus Service.
During the meeting, Memon instructed officials to expedite the bus acquisition process, stressing the government’s dedication to modernizing Karachi’s public transportation system.
He highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the city’s overall transit infrastructure.
Memon also assured that swift action would be taken to address the growing transportation needs and directed that the construction of bus stations be completed promptly.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a significant announcement during his visit to Karachi, declaring the allocation of 150 buses out of a pool of 300 to the province of Sindh. Emphasizing the spirit of fraternity with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, he acknowledged the distinct mandates of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Sindh and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Punjab.
In his address, PM Shehbaz underscored the imperative for collaborative endeavors between the federal and provincial authorities to invigorate the nation’s economy. He emphasized the necessity of making tough decisions, even if they might be unpopular, for the betterment of the masses.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz paid homage to the revered poet and philosopher Allama Iqbal at his mausoleum. During this solemn visit, he laid a wreath on Iqbal’s grave, offered fateha, and was accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori. President Raisi also expressed his reverence for Iqbal in the visitors’ book, underscoring the poet’s enduring influence.
The visit to the mausoleum saw the presence of notable figures including Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Commerce Minister Jam Kamal, signifying the collective respect and admiration for Allama Iqbal’s contributions to literature and philosophy.
