Pakistan Railways Penalizes Over 97 Officials for Corruption

Pakistan Railways has penalized more than 97 officials for corruption over the past five years as part of its initiative to combat malpractices within the department.

An official from the Ministry stated that several measures are being implemented to curb corruption, including the introduction of ticket vending machines and online ticket reservations to prevent black marketing.

To further enhance oversight, a task force has been established to monitor irregularities and ensure staff attendance. Daily ticketless campaigns are conducted by Special Ticket Examiners (STEs) to penalize passengers traveling without tickets.

Additionally, pension payments are now processed through an online banking system, aiming to facilitate pensioners and eliminate ghost pensioners from the system. All auctions are conducted transparently by a designated committee, with funds verified by Divisional Accounts Officers (DAO).

Monthly sessions, known as E-Kacheri and Khuli Kacheri, are held to address grievances from staff, pensioners, and the public. Vigilance offices have been set up to tackle corruption and handle complaints effectively.

Regular performance review meetings are conducted to ensure timely resolution of disciplinary cases, and focal persons from all departments have been appointed to address complaints reported through the Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU).
