Gunpoint Robbery in Korangi Woman Poses as Hitchhiker in Rising Street Crime

In a troubling incident highlighting the high street crime rates in Karachi, a man was robbed at gunpoint by a woman posing as a hitchhiker in the Korangi area. The event unfolded on a Friday night when an elderly woman, wearing a face veil, signaled a motorcyclist near Singer Chowrangi.

According to the victim’s report, he agreed to give her a ride but asked her to exit when they reached Korangi No. 5, as he needed to return home. As the woman disembarked, she suddenly produced a firearm from her handbag, aiming it directly at his chest while demanding his valuables.

Terrified, the victim complied and handed over his mobile phone along with Rs 5,000 in cash. The woman then fled the scene with accomplices who had been following them on two motorcycles since the start of the journey.

This incident underscores the persistent safety issues in Karachi, where street crime continues to escalate. The victim has since lodged a formal complaint at the Awami Colony Police Station, calling for urgent action against the robbers.

The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) revealed that Karachi witnessed over 50,000 street crime incidents between January and August this year, painting a grim picture of public safety in the city. In light of this alarming trend, residents are increasingly concerned about their security and the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing these criminal activities.
