Chinese Investigators Arrive in Karachi to Probe Recent Suicide Attack Targeting Chinese Delegation

KARACHI: A high-level team of Chinese investigators arrived in the city to inspect the site of the recent suicide attack near the airport signal, which targeted a Chinese delegation and their security convoy, as reported by The News on Friday.

After visiting the blast site, the Chinese team received a briefing from Pakistani officials regarding their findings. The Pakistani investigators informed them that strict airport security measures prevented the attacker from bringing his explosives-laden vehicle inside the airport, leading to the suicide attack occurring outside.

The Chinese investigators examined evidence collected by Pakistani agencies and gathered additional evidence from the scene. However, no official statement has been released regarding their visit.

Sources revealed that the human remains found at the site have been identified as belonging to the suicide bomber, Shah Fahad. Identification was made through two fingers from his left hand, which matched records from the National Database and Registration Authority. Other remains recovered include the bomber’s torso, left hand, and head fragments.

Investigators are awaiting an analysis report of the explosive samples, which will help identify the type of explosives used. They are also expanding the investigation scope through geo-fencing and call detail record analysis while continuing to interrogate detained suspects.

Last Sunday, a suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a convoy of Chinese engineers, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including two Chinese nationals, and injuries to 16 others. The Baloch Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility via social media, prompting police to register a case against the BLA chief and facilitators at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
