KP Chief Minister Gandapur’s talks with Pashtun National Jirga conclude successfully

PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD: Negotiations between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the organizers of the three-day Pashtun National Jirga, also known as the Pashtun Qoumi Adalat, concluded successfully ahead of the Jirga’s commencement today in Jamrud, Khyber District.

The provincial government announced that late-night talks led to an agreement allowing the Jirga to peacefully present its demands. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed his support, pledging to personally advocate for the Jirga’s cause and ensure that its demands are addressed.

Provincial Minister Pakhtun Yar Khan confirmed the agreement in a phone interview, emphasizing that peace, development, and prosperity are mutual goals. He stated that the Jirga had been given permission to proceed as long as its participants adhered to the law and constitution.

Khan clarified that the Jirga represents the collective voice of the Pashtun people, not any individual, and reiterated the PTI’s (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) commitment to resolving Pashtun issues peacefully, rejecting violence. He noted the positive atmosphere of the negotiations and suggested that additional steps would follow.

Khan also expressed condolences for those killed in recent incidents in Khyber District and wished a quick recovery for the injured. The negotiations involved Chief Minister Gandapur, provincial ministers, district officials, and PTI representatives, including Manzoor Ahmad Pashtin and Haji Samad Khan.

The Pashtun National Jirga has been granted permission to proceed, with Chief Minister Gandapur reaffirming his commitment to ensuring a peaceful Jirga and advocating for its demands.
