MPC Voices Unconditional Support for Palestinian Self-Determination Amidst Ongoing Israeli Aggression

Israeli Aggression

The multi-party conference (MPC) convened on Monday to express its “unconditional support” for Palestinian self-determination in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression.

This conference, held in Islamabad, coincided with Palestine Solidarity Day, emphasizing the importance of the Palestinian cause within the Muslim world. However, it is noteworthy that Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) did not participate in the meeting.

The MPC was co-hosted by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif present alongside Zardari. Key political figures in attendance included PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, and ANP chief Aimal Wali Khan, among others.

The Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar was responsible for releasing the conference’s communiqué, which strongly condemned Israeli actions that undermine regional peace and violate United Nations laws.

The statement highlighted various Israeli aggressions, including military operations in Lebanon and Gaza, along with the targeted killings of Hamas leaders and Hezbollah figures. These actions have exacerbated an already fragile security situation in the region.

A resolution presented during the conference condemned “Israeli acts of aggression and brutality” against the Palestinian populace, pointing out that more than 40,000 individuals have lost their lives as a direct result of these actions.

Moreover, the resolution denounced attacks on crucial infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, refugee camps, and places of worship, emphasizing the human cost of the ongoing conflict.

As the one-year anniversary of Israel’s military actions in Gaza approaches, Pakistan has voiced deep concern regarding the humanitarian crisis, particularly affecting women and children.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch highlighted the tragic loss of lives, describing the last year as a period of severe suffering due to indiscriminate assaults on civilian targets.

Baloch condemned the widespread starvation and termed the situation as a “genocide of the Gazan population.” Specific incidents of violence were cited, including airstrikes on schools and mosques that have resulted in high civilian casualties.

She called for the UN Security Council to intervene and impose an immediate and lasting ceasefire to protect the people of Gaza, insisting that Israel must be held accountable for what she described as war crimes.

The conference aimed for a unanimous condemnation of what the participants labeled as Israeli genocide in the region. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif previously discussed plans with leaders of various parties to express national solidarity with the Palestinian people and mark October 7 as a “Day of Solidarity with Palestine.”

This date commemorates the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel last year. The MPC plans to organize nationwide gatherings and seminars to demonstrate solidarity with Palestinians and protest against Israeli aggression.

A committee has been formed to manage both the “Day of Solidarity” and the multi-party conference, with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar leading alongside other prominent leaders.

This coordinated effort reflects the commitment of Pakistan’s political leadership to advocate for Palestinian rights and highlight the humanitarian crisis arising from ongoing conflicts in the region.
