Israel has announced a ban on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres from entering the country following his call for urgent de-escalation in the Middle East. In response, Turkey condemned this decision, labeling it as yet another instance of Israel’s disregard for international law.
Following a National Security Council meeting on Thursday, Turkey reiterated its commitment to halting the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people and achieving a lasting ceasefire and peace in the region. The declaration emphasized the need for the international community to increase pressure alongside Turkey’s efforts to reach these objectives.
The statement also expressed Turkey’s solidarity with Lebanon amid Israel’s attacks, asserting that the Turkish nation and state will continue to support the Lebanese people and their government.
The council called on the United Nations Security Council and other responsible parties to take immediate action to prevent the escalation of Israel’s aggression beyond Palestinian territories, which could lead to a wider conflict in the Middle East.
Regarding regional issues, the declaration reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to fostering cooperation, stability, and peace in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions. It cautioned against attempts to undermine Turkey’s genuine efforts, stressing that a common-sense approach is essential for all parties involved.
The National Security Council was also briefed on successful operations against threats to Turkey’s unity and security, including the terrorist organizations PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and Daesh. The statement emphasized that Turkey will continue its operations against terrorist groups in Syria and will reject any plans that jeopardize national security.
Furthermore, the declaration reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with neighboring Iraq in combating terrorist organizations, particularly the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, which pose a mutual threat. Turkey also emphasized its dedication to the security, peace, and prosperity of the Iraqi people.
