SHC grants bail to suspect in Karsaz accident case involved in drug charges

The Sindh High Court has granted bail to Natasha Danish, the woman accused in the Karsaz accident case, in connection with a drug-related charge. Notably, Natasha was already out on bail for the initial case.

During the hearing, her lawyer, Farooq H. Naik, argued that bail had been previously granted in one FIR and highlighted that reconciliation had occurred between the involved parties in this case.

The prosecutor contended that Natasha was driving under the influence of drugs. In response, Naik pointed out discrepancies in the medical report, which indicated the presence of methamphetamine in her urine but not in her blood.

When the court inquired about the quantity of methamphetamine detected, the prosecutor admitted that the medical report did not specify the amount.

Naik further explained that Natasha had been undergoing treatment with a psychiatrist for several years, suggesting that she may have received medication that was not mentioned in the report.

Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha noted the significance of the victims’ reconciliation with the accused, which played a role in the court’s decision. After reviewing arguments from both sides, the Sindh High Court approved Natasha’s bail in the drug case, requiring her to submit bonds of Rs1 million.

Two weeks earlier, her bail application had been denied by a sessions court. The woman driver was charged under the Prohibition of Narcotic Substances Act, with police granted permission to investigate her for drug-related offenses as of September 1.

On August 21, Natasha was remanded to judicial custody, and a special investigation team was formed on August 23 to examine the incident.

New footage revealed that she had collided with a white Corolla and a motorcycle before the fatal crash that occurred on August 19, killing two people and injuring seven others on Karachi’s Karsaz Road.
