Islamabad Overhauls Vehicle Registration Policy to Tackle Agent Mafia

Vehicle Registration

The Excise and Taxation Department in Islamabad has recently introduced new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) designed to improve the vehicle registration process and curb the influence of the agent mafia.

These reforms aim to simplify the procedure for citizens and enhance security through modernized methods, ensuring a smoother experience for vehicle owners.

One of the key features of the new system is the ability for vehicle owners to authorize a representative to register or transfer their vehicle on their behalf.

This can be done either through an authorization letter or by utilizing biometric verification, providing an added layer of security.

Biometric verification is also mandatory for anyone collecting a registration card on behalf of the vehicle owner, ensuring that unauthorized individuals cannot claim vehicle documents.

In a bid to increase accessibility and convenience, the Excise Department has introduced a Doorstep Policy.

This initiative allows vehicle registration and transfer services to be conducted at the vehicle owner’s home or office, reducing the need for trips to government offices.

Additionally, mobile vans have been deployed to key public locations such as markets and parks, offering on-the-spot registration services.

These mobile units make it easier for citizens to complete the registration process without the hassle of standing in long lines or dealing with agents.

For those preferring online services, the department now offers the option to apply for vehicle registration through their online platform.

Citizens are encouraged to request a challan ticket during the process, which provides a detailed breakdown of all associated government fees, ensuring transparency in the transaction.

To further support citizens, a helpline has been established at 051-111-383-383, operational from 8 AM to 4 PM on working days.

Director Excise, Bilal Azam, has urged the public to take full advantage of these new services for a smoother, more secure vehicle registration experience.

The new measures are expected to significantly reduce the reliance on agents and create a more efficient system for Islamabad residents.
