Indian General Commends Pakistani Troops in Letter to COAS Gen Asim Munir

Indian Lt Gen S. Mohan, currently serving in South Sudan, has issued a rare commendation for the professionalism and dedication of Pakistan’s security forces in a letter to Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir.

The letter praises the commendable efforts of Pakistani Blue Helmets (peacekeepers) stationed in the region, highlighting their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment.

According to a news release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “the professionalism of the Pakistan Peacekeeping Contingent has been acknowledged by the Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, Lieutenant General S. Mohan from India.”

The ISPR noted that in line with the mandate from the United Nations Security Council, “the Pakistani Peacekeepers are fulfilling their responsibilities for maintaining peace and security in South Sudan.”

Lt Gen Mohan specifically recognized the contributions of Brigadier Shafaqat Iqbal and Lieutenant Colonel Shahbaz Aslam, who navigated complex operational environments with their troops.

The Indian general highlighted that Pakistani peacekeepers have worked diligently, day and night, to ensure the safety and well-being of South Sudanese citizens, especially in flood-affected areas where they safeguarded over 250,000 internally displaced individuals.

This letter from the Indian commander underscores the significant role played by Pakistani troops in international peace efforts, acknowledging the high standards of professionalism and dedication that the Pakistani Army upholds in peacekeeping missions globally.

The ISPR concluded by stating that Pakistan “remains committed to playing a pivotal role as a responsible member of the international community, working towards the ideals of global peace and security through active support in UN Peacekeeping Missions.”
