Social Media Platform X’s Services Resumed in Pakistan

On Thursday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) was informed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that the suspension of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, had been lifted nationwide. PTA’s lawyer, Ahsan Imam, communicated to the court that the PTA had rescinded its previous notification which had led to the suspension of X services in Pakistan.

This update came after the SHC requested the PTA’s position on the matter of X’s ban in the country. Following the PTA’s clarification, the court decided to adjourn the hearing for two weeks.

Previously, on April 17, the Sindh High Court had ordered the Ministry of Interior to retract its letter that had called for the suspension of Twitter within a week. This directive came after the PTA had imposed a ban on the platform in February, shortly after the general elections of 2024.

The reinstatement of X’s services follows this court intervention and the PTA’s subsequent decision to lift the suspension. This development marks a significant shift in the availability of the platform in Pakistan, restoring access for users across the country.
