KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed cellular companies to conduct a survey addressing complaints about poor internet services on the premises of the Karachi City Court.
The court was hearing a petition filed by the president and secretary general of the Karachi Bar Association, raising concerns over inadequate mobile and internet services at the court complex.
After the initial hearing, the SHC ordered cellular companies to carry out a joint survey to assess the situation and submit a report within two weeks. The next hearing has been scheduled for two weeks later.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) recently provided an update regarding the internet slowdown affecting the country. The PTA attributed the issue to faults in two of the seven international submarine cables that connect Pakistan to the global network.
According to the PTA’s statement, the AAE-1 cable suffered a 250G outage due to rerouting between Iran and Qatar, while the SMW 4 cable (1.5T) went out of service due to faults near Karachi. This has led to widespread internet slowdowns and degradation of services across the country.
