Islamabad is under a virtual lockdown as authorities implement strict security measures ahead of a major Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally scheduled for today. In an effort to control movement and ensure safety, 29 key locations throughout the city have been sealed off, restricting access to several important areas.
The cordoned-off locations include:
- New Margala Road
- Zero Point
- Faisal Chowk
- Bari Imam Cross
- Expressway
- Marriott Hotel Chowk
- NADRA Chowk
- Express Chowk
- Secretariat Chowk
- FATA House
- Taramri Chowk
- Shahpur
- Bani Gala Road
- Faizabad
- Ninth Avenue
- Golra Mor
- Motorway Toll Plaza
- Tarnol Phatak
Additionally, GT Road has been closed in both directions at Sangjani, with containers blocking access. The entrance to Islamabad via the M2 Motorway has also been shut at the 26 Number Chungi toll plaza.
These actions are being taken in anticipation of large crowds expected to attend the PTI rally. The authorities aim to manage the flow of people while ensuring security across the capital. The restrictions are expected to cause major disruptions in traffic, and residents are advised to avoid the affected areas if possible.
The lockdown is part of a broader strategy to maintain public order, with law enforcement agencies positioned at key locations to monitor and control the situation.
