Suicide Blast in Kabul Kills 6, Injures 13: Police Report

Suicide Blast

An explosion rocked Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, on Monday, killing at least six people and injuring 13 others, according to a spokesperson for the country’s Interior Ministry.

The incident, described by the police as a “suicide attack,” occurred in the southwestern area of Darul Aman, a location known for its proximity to government buildings and diplomatic missions.

Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran confirmed the attack, stating on social media platform X that a suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body.

“This afternoon, a person wearing explosives on his body detonated,” Zadran posted, further elaborating that six civilians, including a woman, lost their lives, while 13 others sustained injuries. The exact motives behind the attack remain unclear, and there has been no immediate claim of responsibility.

Spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qaniee provided additional details to Reuters, specifying that the explosion occurred in the southern Kabul area of Qala-e-Bakhtiar.

Both Darul Aman and Qala-e-Bakhtiar are known as bustling areas, raising concerns about the potential for further attacks and the safety of civilians.

The police and security forces have cordoned off the area and are conducting thorough investigations to determine the perpetrators and their objectives.

Kabul’s security situation has seen a relative decline in violence since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021, bringing an end to a two-decade-long conflict. However, sporadic acts of violence continue to plague the city, undermining the fragile sense of security.

The regional chapter of Daesh, known as Daesh Khorasan, remains a significant threat within Afghanistan. The group has been actively targeting civilians, foreigners, and Taliban officials through both gun and bomb attacks.

While no group has claimed responsibility for Monday’s attack, Daesh Khorasan’s previous actions make them a likely suspect.

Afghanistan has faced continuous challenges in achieving stability and security. While the Taliban government has made efforts to assert control and reduce violence, incidents like this underscore the ongoing dangers posed by extremist groups still operating in the country.

The international community continues to watch closely, as such attacks threaten not only the safety of Afghan civilians but also the broader regional stability.

The blast in Kabul serves as a grim reminder of the volatile security situation and the potential for further violence. As investigations continue, the authorities will seek to understand who was behind this attack and how to prevent future incidents from occurring.
