FO Responds to Alleged Arrest of Former PTI MNA Faheem Khan in Saudi Arabia

The Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan responded on Thursday to reports regarding the alleged arrest of former PTI MNA, Faheem Khan, in Saudi Arabia.

The issue came into focus after claims surfaced suggesting that Faheem Khan, a former member of the National Assembly from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, had been detained by Saudi authorities.

The news prompted queries from the media, which sought clarification on the matter from the FO.

During a press briefing, FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch was asked about the status of Faheem Khan’s alleged arrest.

In her response, Baloch emphasized that Pakistani citizens must comply with the laws of any country they visit. This statement served as a reminder that adherence to local laws is crucial for all citizens abroad.

When pressed further by a journalist who inquired whether Faheem Khan had been released by Saudi authorities, the FO spokesperson offered a nuanced response. Baloch pointed out that the question posed was outdated, indicating that the situation had changed.

She clarified that Faheem Khan was no longer in the custody of Saudi authorities. However, she refrained from providing specific details and instead challenged the journalist to verify the information independently, saying, “You are a journalist, confirm his arrest or release.”

The backdrop to these developments involves earlier statements made by the PTI, particularly its Karachi chapter, which claimed that Faheem Khan had been arrested in Saudi Arabia.

The PTI alleged that the arrest was orchestrated at the behest of the Pakistan government, suggesting political motivations behind the detention.

According to the PTI, the arrest was linked to a video that Faheem Khan had reportedly made in front of the Kaaba on May 9. This video, they claimed, could have led to his detention by Saudi authorities.

PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh also addressed the situation, stating that the party was in close contact with Faheem Khan’s family.

He assured that the PTI was utilizing all available resources to secure his early release, reflecting the party’s commitment to supporting its former MNA during this challenging time.

As the situation continued to unfold, the Foreign Office’s response highlighted the complexity of the matter and the need for accurate information.

The FO’s comments suggested that while the initial reports of Faheem Khan’s arrest might have held some truth, the situation had since evolved, with the former MNA no longer in Saudi custody.

The emphasis on confirming details underscored the importance of fact-checking and staying updated on such sensitive issues.

In conclusion, the alleged arrest of Faheem Khan in Saudi Arabia and the subsequent reactions from both the PTI and Pakistan’s Foreign Office illustrate the intricate dynamics at play when political figures face legal challenges abroad.

The FO’s response served to clarify the situation to some extent, while also urging media professionals to verify the latest developments independently.
