No Financial Package for Corrupt Employees Post-PWD Closure, Says PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the financial package for Public Works Department (PWD) employees affected by the institution’s dissolution will exclude those found guilty of serious corruption.

During a meeting on Sunday, the Prime Minister reviewed the legal and procedural aspects related to the disbanding of the PWD. He instructed officials to finalize plans for transferring ongoing PWD projects to provincial and relevant departments, and emphasized that all closure recommendations should be promptly submitted to the cabinet.

Additionally, PM Sharif has directed the implementation of an age relaxation proposal to re-employ diligent and honest PWD staff with shorter employment tenures.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Division Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Housing and Works Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada, and senior officials from relevant departments.

In a separate directive, the Prime Minister tasked the relevant departments with implementing the e-office system across all government offices within a month. He warned the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication officials that any delays would be unacceptable.

PM Sharif stressed that from next month, no file work should be conducted without using the e-office system, which is intended to enhance transparency and improve governance. The PM Office staff has already completed their e-office training, and the Prime Minister himself has begun using the new system. He has requested a progress report on the e-office implementation within the next two weeks, emphasizing its importance for digital advancement in the country.
