22 Dead as Passenger Bus Falls into Ditch on Route to Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: On Sunday, a tragic bus accident claimed the lives of at least 22 individuals, with one person sustaining injuries, according to rescue officials.

The incident occurred when a passenger bus veered off the road and fell into a ditch near Pana Bridge. The bus was en route from Haveli Kahuta to Rawalpindi, carrying a total of 30 passengers.

The accident took place in a mountainous area within the Kahuta Tehsil of Rawalpindi. The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, as investigations are still ongoing.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Zaka from Kahuta, the accident happened close to Azad Pattan Road, which falls within the jurisdiction of Kahuta.

Rescue teams, police, and local administration personnel responded promptly to the scene.

They have successfully retrieved the bodies from the wreckage and transported them to the district headquarters hospital. Efforts are underway to identify the victims and provide support to their families.

In response to the incident, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to the bereaved families. He underscored the importance of expediting relief efforts in light of the tragedy.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also extended her condolences and expressed regret over the loss of lives.

She emphasized the need for swift action to support the affected families and ensure that such incidents are mitigated in the future.

The tragic event has prompted a wave of sympathy and calls for enhanced safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to provide assistance and support to those affected by this devastating accident.
