COAS Gen Munir Warns Harvard Students of Digital Age Fake News Risks

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir cautioned a delegation of students from Harvard Business School (HBS) Trek-2024 about the dangers of misinformation and fake news in the digital age, urging them to approach this landscape with discernment. This was conveyed during a meeting at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The delegation, comprising students from nine different countries, met with the army chief, who emphasized the need for careful navigation of the digital world. His remarks came just a day after addressing the Pakistan National Youth Convention 2024, where he highlighted the state’s responsibility to shield its citizens from the harmful effects of social media.

Addressing the youth at the convention, General Munir described them as Pakistan’s “most important and valuable asset,” asserting that the nation would protect their potential at all costs. He expressed confidence in the bright future of Pakistan, as reflected in the enthusiasm of the young attendees.

Moreover, the COAS stressed the importance of comprehensive youth development, including engagement, education, and entertainment. The ISPR stated that the session with the Harvard students offered a platform to discuss Pakistan’s crucial role in fostering regional peace and stability, its steadfast fight against terrorism, and its dedication to upholding democratic values.

General Munir also underscored the importance of education, critical thinking, and innovation in tackling modern security challenges. He highlighted Pakistan’s immense potential and encouraged the students to form their own opinions based on personal experiences.

The Harvard delegation expressed their gratitude to the COAS for the insightful and constructive dialogue. This meeting follows General Munir’s earlier interaction with students from various universities at the GHQ on August 20, further demonstrating his commitment to inspiring and supporting the nation’s youth, according to the ISPR.
