Court Grants One-Day Physical Remand for Karsaz Road Accident Driver

One-Day Physical Remand

On Tuesday, the city court in Karachi approved a one-day physical remand of a female driver involved in a tragic road accident on Karsaz Road, which claimed the lives of at least two people.

The incident has drawn significant attention due to the circumstances surrounding the driver, identified as Natasha.

The police presented Natasha before the court, seeking her remand to continue their investigation into the accident. However, Advocate Amir Mansub, representing Natasha, objected to the remand request.

Mansub argued that his client was not in a stable mental state, explaining that she was currently receiving treatment at Jinnah Hospital for her condition.

He emphasized that her mental health issues made it inappropriate for her to be held in physical custody.

Despite these arguments, the court maintained that bail could not be granted in the absence of the accused.

The judge clarified that the court, functioning as a special magistrate in this case, lacked the authority to grant bail and that Natasha needed to be present in court for any such decision.

The court instructed that Natasha be presented before the appropriate court the following day, and also mandated that a valid medical certificate detailing her condition be submitted at that time.

During the hearing, the court inquired about Natasha’s driving credentials, asking whether her driving licence had been confiscated.

The investigating officer revealed that Natasha did not possess a Pakistani driving licence; instead, she held a UK licence.

This disclosure prompted the court to question the validity of a UK driving licence in Pakistan. The officer was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation, which further complicated the situation.

The court ordered that Natasha be presented in the relevant court on Wednesday, reiterating the need for her presence in future legal proceedings.

In addition to the remand request, the investigating officer submitted a report outlining Natasha’s medical condition and the reasons for her absence from court earlier.

He stated that a doctor had admitted Natasha to the hospital after evaluating her, concluding that her mental state was too poor for her to attend court.

He described her condition as severely deteriorated and initially requested a seven-day police remand to allow for further investigation.

However, after considering the arguments and evidence presented, the court decided to grant only a one-day physical remand of the suspect.

This decision was made in light of Natasha’s mental health concerns, as well as the need for her to be properly assessed and presented in court in accordance with legal requirements.

The case continues to develop, with further proceedings expected to determine the course of action regarding Natasha’s involvement in the Karsaz road accident.

The court’s decision to limit the remand period reflects a cautious approach, balancing the need for investigation with concerns about the suspect’s mental well-being.
